What this extension does
The URL Shortener Chrome Extension lets you quickly shorten links using theshortener.com directly from your browser.
To use the extension, you must create an account and connect your API key.
Getting started
- Create an account at
https://theshortener.com - Log in to your dashboard
- Generate an API key
- Open the Chrome extension settings
- Paste your API key and save
Common issues & solutions
1. “Invalid API key”
- Make sure you copied the full API key
- Check that the key is active in your dashboard
- Regenerate the key if needed
2. Extension does nothing when clicked
- Confirm you are logged in and the API key is saved
- Reload the page and try again
- Make sure the extension has permission to run on the current site
3. Rate limit or error response
- Free plans may have usage limits
- Try again later or upgrade your plan
4. Short link not working
- Check if the original URL is valid
- Ensure the link was not deleted or disabled in your dashboard
Privacy & data usage
- The extension only sends the current page URL to theshortener.com when you click to shorten
- No browsing data is collected automatically
